Abstract

Qur’anic interpretation has generally placed greater emphasis on ontological and epistemological issues, while its axiological dimension, which concerns the values, purposes, benefits, and social consequences of interpretation, has received comparatively limited attention. This study aims to examine the nature of the axiology of Qur’anic interpretation, identify the values underlying the interpretive process, and formulate an evaluative framework for the implementation of interpretation in social life. The study employs a qualitative library research design using philosophical inquiry and qualitative content analysis. Data were drawn from books and journal articles discussing the philosophy of science, axiology, philosophy of interpretation, maqāṣidī interpretation, contextual approaches, interpretive ethics, and public benefit. The data were analyzed through reduction, thematic categorization, comparison with previous studies, and conceptual synthesis. The findings demonstrate that the axiology of interpretation is not merely a supplementary component of ontology and epistemology, but an ethical orientation that connects methodological validity with the social responsibility of interpretation. Its principal values include monotheism, truth, justice, humanity, public benefit, moderation, responsibility, and scholarly openness. The study also develops a four-dimensional evaluative framework consisting of foundational values, interpretive objectives, social implementation, and the impact of public benefit. This framework constitutes the study’s scientific contribution by transforming axiology from a general normative concept into an analytical instrument for assessing the direction, relevance, and consequences of interpretive products. The findings imply the need to strengthen Qur’anic interpretation that is methodologically sound, contextual, ethical, and responsive to contemporary social problems.
